Why do we teach children math when there are real problems?
The conversation takes its starting point in the classroom and in concrete methods. How can teaching be linked to students’ real lives? How can source criticism become a natural part of all subjects? And what happens when mathematics and physics are used to explore issues like climate, energy and democracy?
Drawing on examples from Philippe Longchamps’ work, the discussion highlights how interdisciplinary projects can make learning more exploratory, creative and relevant – and how they can strengthen students’ sense of participation and future confidence.
The program begins at 16:00 with arrival, drinks and light refreshments. The talk runs from 16:30 to 17:30 and is followed by a mingle until 18:00.
